clinical investigations in critical care I Efficacy of 1 . 4 Percent Sodium Citrate in ~ aintaining Arterial Catheter Patency in Patients in a Medical ICU *
نویسنده
چکیده
firpose: The primary purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of 1.4 percent sodium citrate with heparin, 4 Ulml, for maintaining radial artery catheter patency in patients in the medical ICU. Potients and Methods: Patients in the medical ICU (n =40) were randomized to either a 1.4 percent sodium citrate or heparin 4 Ulml arterial line flush solution in a doubleblind, parallel fashion. The flush solutions were continuously infused at approximately 3 mYh over a maximum of 96 h. Catheter survival rates were compared using KaplanMeier survival curves. The frequency of catheter malfunctions and corrective manipulations were recorded and compared. Coagulation status (APTT, PT) and ionized calcium values were monitored to evaluate the systemic effects of sodium citrate.

Comparing the Effect of Continuous and Intermittent Irrigation Techniques on Complications of Arterial Catheter and Partial Thromboplastin Time in Patients Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery
Background: Different approaches are available to irrigate the arterial catheter, such as continuous and intermittent techniques. However, there is a disagreement regarding the most appropriate method. Aim: this study aimed to compare the effect of two continuous and intermittent irrigation methods on complications of arterial catheter and partial thromboplastin time (PTT) in patients with coro...

Background and purpose: Hemodynamic monitoring is necessary after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). For this purpose, the arterial line should be rinsed to prevent obstruction. There is no consensus on flushing methods. This study aimed to compare the effect of continuous and intermittent flushing on maintaining patency of the arterial line in patients after CABG. Materials and methods...
متن کاملIs Taurolidine-citrate an effective and cost-effective hemodialysis cathe-ter lock solution? A systematic review and cost- effectiveness analysis
Background: Prevention of catheter-related infection is of prime importance,. However, because of the risks caused by the leakage of circulating antibiotics and development of resistance to antibiotics, they are replaced by lock solutions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and cost- effectiveness of taurolidine-citrate as a hemodialysis catheter lock solution compared to other ...
متن کاملPotential Role of Exogenous Melatonin Supplement in Delirium Prevention in Critically Ill Patients: A Double-Blind Randomized Pilot Study
Critically ill patients often suffer from disturbance of sleep-wake cycle and consequently delirium development, in intensive care units (ICU). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of exogenous melatonin on delirium development and its related adverse sequelae in the subgroup of medical and surgical ICU patients. We performed a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized pilot study i...
